Meet the staff
Ken first donned his butcher's apron at 9 Market Street for a Saturday job 50 years ago in 1969. Staying on at the shop full time after leaving school, Ken learnt the trade under Jim Harper and took the reins in 1979. In 2019, Ken finally hung up his apron for the final time and is now enjoying a well-earned retirement whilst keeping an eye on us from a distance!
Marathon-running, mountain-climbing shop manager Tony has worked with Ken for 25 years. In the last decade he has been aided and abetted by the talented Lee and Lizzie, and most recently the multi-lingual Laura. Long-standing Queen of the Cooked Meats Sarah (an amazing seamstress and furniture maker in her spare time) left us in 2019.
Many more have joined and left our shop family over the years before going on to all sorts of other careers - from firemen to librarians to doctors of medicine!
